WHAT IS BREAST AUGMENTATION?
Breast augmentation (also referred to as breast enhancement or mammoplasty) is a cosmetic procedure that is done to enhance the size and shape of one’s breasts. A breast enhancement surgery, if done correctly, can increase breast firmness, even out asymmetrical breasts, and even correct breast sagging.
The procedure involves inserting a breast implant in a small incision made either under the breast, the underside of the nipple, or in the armpit. It usually takes about an hour to an hour and a half, and is done under general anesthesia.
You are a good candidate for this procedure if:
- You do not smoke
- You are physically well
- You are mentally stable and psychologically prepared
- You are comfortable trusting our surgeons
- You are not happy with your current breast size and shape
- You lack confidence when you wear swimsuits or body-hugging clothes
- Your breasts are asymmetrical
- Your breasts are too small

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What type of implants are available to me?
About 99% of all breast enhancement procedures in Australia use gel-filled implants. These implants are considered much safer and more durable than the other types available. Moreover, technological advancements have made gel implants even safer. Today, most surgeons use a cohesive silicone gel, which allows the breast to stay in shape longer and reduces spreading in case the implants rupture.
What are my options on the shape of implants available?
You can choose a breast shape depending on your goals. Implant shapes range from teardrop-shaped to round. The teardrop implant gives off a soft, natural look, while the rounded implants give a fuller, more elevated look.
What are my choices of where the implants are placed?
The implants will be placed either on top of or under the breast (or pectoral) muscle. The placement of the implants will be determined based on your breast size and shape as well as the amount of your breast tissue.
Where are the incisions made?
There are three possible locations for an incision: in the armpit, around the nipple, or under the breast crease. Although all three can give you similar results, our plastic surgeons will discuss which is best suited for your physique and medical data.
Where is the procedure carried out?
The surgery may be performed either in our facility or in a private hospital.
How long does the operation take?
A breast augmentation procedure will usually take an hour to an hour and a half, varying depending on the implant placement, the size of the breasts, and the kind of incision.
What type of anaesthesia will be used?
The anesthesia used will be determined by the surgeon and the patient, but the choice is usually just between general and local anesthetic.
What is the recovery period?
Although the recovery period is usually dependent on the person, we advise our clients to take a leave of absence from work for at least a week and refrain from strenuous activities for at least six weeks.
Will this procedure affect my ability to breastfeed in the future?
The breast enhancement procedure does not affect the ability to breastfeed as it does not harm or affect the breast ducts and glands.
